Relation of EDL Forces between Clay Particles Calculated by Different Methods

Calculation of the electrostatic double layer force (EDL force) between clay particles is relevant as it closely related to important macroscopic mechanical behaviors clays. The popular method calculate EDL integrate electric potential and Maxwell stress along boundary enclosing a simply connected domain within which particle resides. has also been calculated by integration density over preceding domain. However, subtle relation forces different existing methods not yet investigated. By means theoretical analysis finite element simulation, was shown that complete multiply in excluded, partial represents electrical attractive osmotic repulsive force, respectively, while both same denotes force. Numerical results showed deviates from its actual value significantly with decrease distance chosen integral surface, deviation varies surface angle particles. Moreover, recommended minimum proposed be 10 times thickness based on present simulation results.
